The Board

The Temple Board and Executive Officers are voted into office by congregation members at the annual temple meeting, typically in early June.

The Temple Presidents are leaders of the Temple Board. The Executive Officers oversee the smooth functioning of the temple and board.

Martha Armstrong has been a member of TVO for about 20 years. Over that time, she has been involved with the Bereavement Support Group since its inception over 10 years ago. She is also involved in the Eden Initiative that is restoring native plants to our four acres of planet earth and envisioning more outdoor programs. Most recently Martha joined the High Holidays choir and the Building & Grounds committee. Martha has served as co-Vice President for the past two years, and chaired the committee that updated the TvO Bylaws.

Martha worked as an architect early in her career and then worked in economic development here in Tompkins County for over 20 years. She now has a part-time post-retirement career as a burial coordinator at Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve and loves this heart-centered work. Martha and her partner Lois Levitan live in the Belle Sherman neighborhood with their son Teo. Their daughter Katya lives in the Hudson Valley with her partner and two adorable children.

Mitch Grossman has been a member of TVO for 3 years.  As a co-Vice President and member of the Finance committee, he has focused on fund-raising activities, applying for 3 grants and working on the Listen to Your Mother program committee. He has also implemented the Wild Apricot membership website.

Prior to moving to Ithaca, Mitch lived in Metuchen, NJ, where he was a member of Temple Emanu-El of Edison for 30 years.  He was the Treasurer of that temple for 4 years and a board member for more than 10 years.  Mitch worked in the publishing industry, primarily in finance roles, at Simon & Schuster and Pearson Education, for 43 years.  He has a BA from Colgate University and an MBA from New York University.  Mitch has 3 adult children, who all went to college in Ithaca.  He lives on the west side of the lake with his partner, Ginger Trow.
