Consecration at Greensprings Natural Cemetery

11 Sep @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

CONSECRATION OF TVO SECTION AT GREENSPRINGS NATURAL CEMETERY PRESERVE
293 Irish Settlement Rd., Newfield, NY
Led by Rabbi Shifrah and Lauren Korfine
TVO has now secured two adjacent sections at Greensprings Natural Cemetery for burials of members and their families. It’s customary in Jewish tradition to consecrate cemetery areas by reciting or singing special blessings and psalms while circumnavigating the site. In this way we clarify our community’s kavannah (sacred intention) to honor the dead (kavod ha-meitim) and comfort the mourners (nichum ha-aveilim.)  As we engage in this ritual, we’ll also have the opportunity to honor the sanctity of all life, as represented by the 120 acres of meadowland habitat and 10 acres of woodland preserved by Greensprings. We’re delighted that Greensprings’ manager Michelle Menter will be joining us as well. All are welcome.

* RSVP’s are important for this event. RSVP’s will let us know how many chairs we need, and how many people will require a ride from the parking lot to the site. (There’s an ATV that can take people to the site if they’re not able to walk from the parking lot. Please let us know when you RSVP if you expect to need this assistance.)
* Plan to arrive at the parking lot by 4:45 so we can leave for the site at 5pm. We’ll be walking together and singing as we go, and we don’t want you to miss out!
* There’s limited parking in the lot. Carpooling is recommended.
* Wear comfortable walking shoes, and dress for walking on an uneven path. Weather tends to be variable and unpredictable in the area.
